Can DRAG turbo pass CA smog?

Is the DRAG turbo kit legal and can it pass the Cali smog test? if not, how do you guys in Cali with the kit get around this? Thanks.

Short answer is no.

The turbo will not pass VISUAL exam since it is not certified and because the wastegate dumps exhaust straight to atmosphere rather than through the cat. Greddy turbo is the only smog-legal kit.

However if you happen to have a smog mechanic who doesn't pay so much attention to visual checks, the car should be just fine on the "tailpipe sniffer" emissions check as long as you leave the catalytic converter in place.

You could make it legal, any modification can be legal as long as you follow the guidelines on smog law.

you could weld the dump tube and blow off valve dump side you your exhaust (before the cat), then take it to the referee and get it inspected there.

It will pass then.
